The photo shows the massive entrance of the village, whose name refers to the inscription of that Maori Pioneer Battalion, which fought in the First World War at Gallipoli on the side of the Allies. On the left and right panels, the names of the dead are listed.
Behind the portal you can see the so-called "Penny Divers Bridge" that crosses the small opening out into Lake Rotorua Puarenga river. Maori children swim in the river and ask visitors clamoring to throw a few coins down, after which they will appear.
